On the bank of the majestic Mekong
You can’t miss the Mekong when you come to Champasak
With the Phou Kao mountain, it is the 2nd cardinal point of the village which is built along the river. The flow here is peaceful although powerful and is largely responsible for the calm and relaxing atmosphere that reigns in the village.
Don’t forget to sit on one of the many terraces and viewpoints to observe the activity on the river and contemplate this enchanting picture with its changing lights.
Accessibility and transport
It is possible to reach Champasak from Pakse by traditional boat (around 1h30) or to travel from the village to the island of Done Deng, the Buddhist library of the Muang Kang temple or the pre-Angkorian site of Tomo.
The Mekong also offers many activity options. You can discover Turtle Island by kayak, admire the sunset aboard a cruise boat or learn traditional fishing techniques with a local.
