Kayaking on the Mekong

You can hire kayaks and be taken upstream from Champasak and float peacefully down the Mekong, observing life on the banks accompanied by a guide, or cross the river from Champasak to discover Done Daeng Island.

Cycling

Several individuals, guest-houses and hotels offer bicycles and mountain bikes for hire. (Almost) all the trails described above can be done on mountain bikes.

BADMINTON

Badminton is popular in Laos and Champasak is no exception. Exchanging a few strokes with the local players in the hall located in the center of the village, every day in the late afternoon, is a perfect way to keep fit while sharing a friendly moment.

The good players are also welcome to have strong matchs with the local champions.

PALATEU – SHADOW PUPPETS TEATHER

Champasak’s shadow theatre, also known as Palateu, is a symbol of the cultural vitality of Champasak. Moribund until the 2010s, a troupe of local musicians and puppeteers has revived the tradition and freely reinterpreted the story inspired by the Ramayana, while incorporating jokes that delight children and adults alike.

The performances, halfway between a puppet show and traditional music, take place at nightfall in the village square (3 days a week during the dry season from mid-October to mid-April, and on request the rest of the year).

The CHAMPA Project supports the company in its activity, especially the training of young musicians and puppeteers to ensure that this rich tradition continues.
